If you’ve never visited a state where cannabis is legal (and you’ve never been to Canada), you might imagine the fully-legal corners of the world as hash heaven – people picnicking with joints in hand, basking in Bob Ross-like golden rays of sunshine and the sweet freedom that comes from being able to light up whenever you please.
We hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but that’s not the reality – like, at all.
Smoking or vaping cannabis in public is still illegal in every part of the United States, including states where recreational marijuana is legal. Though laws on using tinctures and edibles outdoors vary, state laws on smoking or vaping cannabis tend to mirror laws on alcohol – i.e., if you’re in a space where you can’t crack open a beer, you probably can’t whip out a joint.
The only thing that makes cannabis law different than the laws on alcohol in these states? There are no marijuana bars. While Colorado and California may award cannabis licenses to business..

We all know that smoking cigarettes can cause cancer, but a new study suggests that smoking marijuana might be similarly harmful. As CNN reports, the study – which was published on Monday in the EClinicalMedicine journal – found that smoking weed can expose you to many of the same toxins found in tobacco smoke.
The study found that people who only smoked marijuana had higher blood and urine levels of several smoke-related toxins – including naphthalene, acrylamide and acrylonitrile – than nonsmokers had. As CNN notes, “Naphthalene is associated with anemia, liver and neurological damage, while acrylamide and acrylonitrile have been associated with cancer and other health issues.”
“Marijuana use is on the rise in the United States with a growing number of states legalizing it for medical and nonmedical purposes – including five additional states in the 2020 election,” senior author Dr. Dana Gabuzda, a principal investigator in cancer immunology and virology at the Dana-F..

PHOENIX (AP) – Inside a nondescript block building near Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix, workers pack hundreds of vacuum-sealed glass jars with high-end marijuana. They will sell for a steep premium at medical dispensaries across the state.
Nearby, thousands of marijuana plants are meticulously hand-watered, hand-trimmed, and nurtured in a series of growing rooms.
The Grow Sciences cultivation business, like a few others in Arizona, has found a niche producing high-end marijuana that sells for about double the price of other products on the market, the Arizona Republic reported.
The company doesn’t have a dispensary license from the state. Instead, it “rents” one from another company that does. Leasing licenses to grow marijuana allows entrepreneurs to break into the cannabis industry without also having to run a retail dispensary.
The operators of some of these farms say the arrangement allows them to focus on growing high-end marijuana that is in heavy d..

Despite a global pandemic overshadowing the launch of Maine’s legal marijuana market, shops in the state are reporting brisk business.
Maine began allowing the sale of medical marijuana on October 9th, 2020. While they were unable to replicate the grand opening scenes that have followed the first sales in other states because of the worsening effects of COVID-19 in the state and country at that time, regulators reported more than $1 million in sales in October, more than $1.2 million in November and nearly $2 million in December. The number of retail businesses also continues to grow.
“Despite all the market challenges, everything from COVID to supply chains and beyond, Maine has done a really good job getting this market up and running,” said Thomas Winstanley, vice president of marketing for Theory Wellness, which has locations in South Portland and Waterville. “Cannabis is becoming part of the social fabric.”

Attorneys in Mississippi have invoked a “zombie law” to block the state’s recently passed medical marijuana legalization bill, the latest of many attacks on the initiative in the past year.
According to the Mississippi state constitution, petitioners must gather an equal number of signatures from five congressional districts. But a lawsuit by Madison Mayor Mary Hawkins Butler against Initiative 65, a bill passed this November legalizing medical marijuana in Mississippi, argues the Mississippi initiative process is outdated due to recent district changes, which could invalidate the process by which Initiative 65 was put on the ballot.
Mississippi dropped from five congressional districts to four after the 2000 Census. Butler argues that this creates a mathematical impossibility: With four districts, more than one-fifth of the signatures must come from each.
According to Initiative 65, the state Health Department is required to establish a medical marijuana program by th..
